Minneapolis City Council is moving forward with a plan requiring businesses with dress codes to post them publicly, citing concerns about discrimination.
The ordinance, which passed out of committee Tuesday afternoon, would require businesses to post dress codes near their entrances. It wouldn’t apply to some laws, like no shoes, no shirt, no service, council members confirmed during Tuesday’s meeting.
“I think about the high-profile case that happened at a downtown bar here in Minneapolis. There was a white man that was allowed entry wearing a Twins shirt and a Black man not allowed entry wearing a Twins shirt,” Council member Jason Chavez said during the meeting, before referencing an instance where he says he was denied entry from an establishment because he was wearing a rainbow pouch…
