Milwaukee’s Black Culture Fest Returns to American Family Field Friday

Milwaukee’s Black Culture Fest returns to American Family Field this Friday, transforming the Terrace Level outside Section 407 into a marketplace of Black-owned businesses, live performances and community pride before the Brewers take on the Atlanta Braves. The celebration kicks off at 1:30 p.m., a little over an hour and a half ahead of the 3:10 p.m. first pitch, and requires a game ticket for entry.

The event is a partnership between the Milwaukee Brewers and Social X MKE, a young professionals group that co-organizes the festival alongside the team, according to FOX6 News Milwaukee. Ranell Washington, co-founder and president of Social X MKE, shared details on the festival with the station ahead of Friday’s event. Presented by Aurora Health Care, the festival will feature a marketplace of Black-owned businesses and non-profits, performances by local marching bands, an interactive art experience, face painting, flash tattoos and live entertainment, according to CBS 58.

A Rapper’s Homecoming Moment on the Mound

Milwaukee hip-hop artist Wave Chapelle, a North Side native who also serves as an official team ambassador for the Milwaukee Bucks, will throw the ceremonial first pitch before the game, per the same CBS 58 report. Chapelle previously signed with Yo Gotti’s CMG label before returning home to build an independent career in Milwaukee. His appearance adds a contemporary cultural touchstone to a day already rooted in the city’s Black baseball history.

Honoring a Bronzeville Baseball Legacy

This year’s festival is honoring the Beckum-Stapleton Little League, founded in 1964 by former Negro League baseball player James Beckum as what organizers describe as the nation’s oldest urban Little League serving central-city youth, according to Social X MKE. Operating out of Milwaukee’s Bronzeville neighborhood for more than 60 years, the league has served more than 25,000 young people, the group notes. Tying the tribute to Beckum-Stapleton connects Friday’s festivities to a long lineage of Black baseball history in Milwaukee, not just a single game-day promotion.

Black Culture Fest slots into the Brewers’ 2026 Community Nights slate, which also included 414 Day on April 14, Pride Night on June 12 and Noche de Cerveceros on July 17, according to Radio Milwaukee. Individual tickets for the community series were released to the public back in February. The Brewers and Social X MKE have collaborated before, having partnered with Aurora Health Care on a Negro Leagues Tribute Game at American Family Field in July 2025 that combined baseball history with local Black business showcases and musical performances, per Social X MKE.

Who’s Behind the Festival

Social X MKE was co-founded in 2012 as a diversity and inclusion consulting group designed to connect, retain and empower young professionals of color in Greater Milwaukee, according to the UW-Milwaukee Lubar Entrepreneurship Center. The group is led by president Marquayla Ellison and vice president Ranell Washington. Beyond professional development, Social X MKE also powers FEAR MKE, short for Forget Everything And Run, a diversity-focused running club launched in May 2015 to bridge wellness disparities in Milwaukee through weekly lakefront runs and track sessions focused on runner safety and inclusivity…
