BBB warns parents that first-day school photos could expose children to identity theft

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — As students across northern Illinois head back to the classroom, the Better Business Bureau is urging parents to think twice before posting first-day-of-school photos on social media.

In a news release issued Tuesday, the BBB said seemingly innocent photos can contain personal information that scammers may use to steal a child’s identity or gather details for future fraud schemes. The organization specifically warned against sharing information such as a child’s full name, age, grade level, school, teacher or home address.

“School safety used to mean obeying the crossing guard, but in the digital age, scammers have graduated to high-tech tricks,” the BBB said in the release…
