Fort Collins’ closed King Soopers to be redeveloped

More than a year after its aisles emptied, redevelopment plans for Midtown Fort Collins’ former King Soopers may soon take another step forward.

City staff recommended approval of the project development plan for The Edison at University Plaza — a 270-unit proposed apartment project — at an administrative Type 1 hearing Aug. 12, according to Andy Reese of planning and design firm Kimley-Horn & Associates. Reese is a consultant on the Edison project.

The proposal includes the demolition of the existing grocery store building as well as a strip of connected businesses to the south at 2407 S. College Ave., according to past Coloradoan reporting. The impacted building currently houses a Car Toys store and Visionworks…
