The family of 1993 murder victim Karie Ann Newberry are on a mission to keep her killer behind bars.

James Michael Spann, 53, will appear before the Tennessee Board of Parole (TBOP) for the fourth time Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Bledsoe County Correctional Complex in Pikeville, Tenn., seeking release from his life sentence for the murder of Karie Ann Newberry — one of the highest-profile cases in Dickson County history.
