SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The Sweetwater Valley All-Stars 12-Under team has stolen the hearts of San Diegans throughout the county as the Little League team from Bonita gears up for the big task of competing in the Little League World Series in front of the world to see.
Sweetwater Valley punched its ticket to the international tournament after defeating Hawaii 11-3 on Friday in San Bernardino to clinch the West Regional Championship and punch its ticket to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
The Bonita team on Thursday will take on Davenport, Iowa, the winner of the Midwest Region.
On Saturday, the team made the trip to Williamsport as the West Region Champions. In addition to carrying the championship banner, they also carry with them the love and support of an entire community.
What to know about Sweetwater Valley advancing to Little League World Series
To help cover travel expenses, the team shared on social media that it has created a GoFundMe page to ask the community for support.
