Military selects NC State to lead textile manufacturing modernization program

The U.S. Department of Defense chose North Carolina State University to lead a decade-long initiative that’s expected to help modernize U.S. textile manufacturing.

The FutureTEX initiative will bring together universities, non-profits, a community college, and a host of private-sector companies.

It will focus on bolstering domestic production with emerging technologies and advanced manufacturing approaches, workforce training and building the supply chain for essentially any type of textiles the military uses, from parachutes and uniforms to the high-tech fibers used in composite parts for jets, drones and missiles…
