Providence asks court to overturn panel’s decision in order to fire Sgt. Hanley

(WJAR) — The city of Providence has filed court action to once again try to fire a police sergeant accused of hitting and kicking a handcuffed suspect six years ago.

A police disciplinary panel ruled earlier this month, for the second time, that Sgt. Joseph Hanley can return to work after serving a 45-day suspension, over the city’s objection.

The city wants to fire him…
