DENVER — A misspelled street sign reading “Califorina” at 19th and California streets brought plenty of jokes when it went viral because of a Reddit post this week.
It got dozens of comments and even a joking response from Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, who posted a photo of the sign on Facebook captioned “Colorado not Califorina.” The Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure took the sign down not long after.
But a 9NEWS review of Denver 311 complaints found the “Califorina” type mistake was not an isolated occurrence. Citizens have flagged more than 70 misprinted street signs across the city since 2023, ranging from wrong directional prefixes to incorrect block numbers to outright misspellings.
