A Flood Watch is in effect across much of the Sandhills as repeated thunderstorms could bring several inches of rain to the region Friday and Friday night.
The watch begins at 11 a.m. Friday, August 21, and continues through 8 a.m. Saturday, August 22. It includes Moore, Lee, Hoke, Richmond, Scotland and Harnett counties, along with other portions of central North Carolina.
According to the National Weather Service, unusually moist and unstable conditions could support thunderstorms capable of producing very heavy rain. Rainfall rates could reach as much as three inches per hour in the strongest storms. Total rainfall amounts of two to five inches are possible in the watch area through early Saturday, although exact totals will vary by location.
