SALEM, Va. — After being shut out and held to one hit in Wednesday’s loss, the Wilson Warbirds took a big lead then held off the host Salem RidgeYaks 11-10 in game 3 of their Single-A Carolina League series Thursday night, Aug. 20, at Carilion Clinic Field.
Wilson led 4-1 entering the top of the seventh inning when it erupted for six runs on three hits, four walks and three stolen bases, plus a couple of Salem wild pitches and an errant pick-off throw. However the RidgeYaks responded with eight runs in the bottom of the eighth to cut the lead to a run.
The Warbirds manufactured a run in the eighth when center fielder Brailyn Antunez was hit by a pitch and used two wild pitches and groundout to move around the bags and come home…
