Resident burning trash sparks large brush fire in northeast Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — A brush fire broke out at a northeast Oklahoma City residence on Thursday afternoon, leaving one person with minor injuries.

Firefighters with the Oklahoma City Fire Department responded to the scene near the 6200 block of North Jericho just after 3:30 p.m., finding heavy fire and smoke in the backyard of a residence.

Officials say the fire started when a resident burned trash inside a burn barrel, which spread to nearby trees, grass, appliances, and other materials. Flames from the blaze had reached around 80 feet into the air as the fire spread through surrounding grass and brush.

Fire conditions generated spot fires in a field north of NE 62nd Street. Oklahoma City Fire Department crews, with 14 units on scene, worked alongside mutual aid units from the Nicoma Park Fire Department, which provided two brush pumpers and one tanker, to prevent the fire from spreading to a neighboring residence…
