WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A southwest Kansas town broke ground on a new fire station on Friday.
The Cimarron Fire Department currently operates without its own dedicated facility. Instead, it shares space with the city’s electric department, which does not have enough room for all of its fire trucks.
Alex Hibbert, Cimarron’s fire chief and emergency coordinator, said the new station will give the department room to grow and increase its fire protection rating.

“One of the big things it’s going to allow us to do is to be able to have all of our equipment located in a central location,” Hibbert said. “It’s going to allow us to be able to conduct in-house trainings at our facility. Right now, a lot of our meetings are handled in the parking lot of the electrical department, or we have to host meetings at our local library.”
