(SHERWOOD) — You could say Thomas Crews has spent the entirety of his adult life in service to others and not be far off the mark.
Twenty years as a military policeman in the U.S. Army, 22 years delivering the mail as a postman and for the past five years, the 66-year-old has been a volunteer at the Marjorie Stewart Senior Community Center in Sherwood. He began as a kitchen helper and is now the organization’s driver for the Sherwood Senior Shuttle, which provides curb-to-curb transportation for adults 62 years and older who reside within the city limits.
“I drive the seniors around to their appointments, pick them up for the lunch service and deliver them back home,” he said, adding that he prepared for the job by participating in a six-hour class at an organization called Ride Connection in Gresham.
