Cherokee County voters to decide on school property tax cap

Cherokee County residents will have the opportunity in November to vote on a measure that would limit property assessment growth for local school taxes.

Gov. Brian Kemp signed Senate Bill 407 into law May 12, placing a referendum on the Nov. 3 ballot.

SB 407 proposes limiting the growth of Cherokee County School District property taxes. It says if a home’s assessed value rises by more than 4%, the excess amount will be exempt from school district ad valorem taxes, state Sen. Jason Dickerson, R-Canton, told the Tribune Friday…
