The intersection between Argent Boulevard and U.S. 278 has finally received a traffic light. But drivers have to wait a bit longer before it’s turned on.
Argent Boulevard is an important corridor in Hardeeville connecting U.S. 278 to S.C. highway 170, making it a short-cut between the highways. Developers have built several neighborhoods, including a section of the massive Sun City retirement community, off of Argent Boulevard. These factors have increased traffic at the intersection, and a 2023 traffic study found upwards of 14,800 vehicles travel Argent Boulevard each day.
The intersection only has a stop sign at Argent Boulevard and left-turn lane on U.S. 278 to control it. Here’s what the S.C. Department of Transportation are doing to improve it.
