Columbus town hall addresses data center concerns

COLUMBUS, Ga. — Columbus GA Indivisible held a town hall Saturday at Columbus Technical College, where residents raised concerns about a proposed data center in Muscogee County.

District 8 City Councilman Walker Garrett answered questions and listened to citizens’ concerns during the event. No data center has been approved. The only thing officially approved is the land, should a data center come to the county.

Residents raise cost and reliability concerns

Some citizens said they are worried about potentially higher energy bills. One resident said he does not want a data center at all.

Garrett told attendees a data center could still end up in a county near Muscogee, which he said could leave Columbus with the risks and none of the benefits.
