Bear attacks angler in Jefferson County, the 6th reported bear attack in Colorado in 2026

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – A Colorado man is recovering after he was injured by a young bear while fishing Friday — the sixth reported attack in the state this year.

According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the victim — described as a man in his 60s — was walking back to the North Fork trail parking lot when the bear attacked. The area is in a remote river canyon southwest of the Denver metro. The man was reportedly not carrying any fish at the time.

“Multiple witnesses reported a subadult sow knocked the man to the ground and bit his legs. The attack continued for several minutes until the victim’s friends scared the bear away. Additional bystanders stopped to provide assistance, according to witness reports to CPW officers. The man was taken to a local hospital with leg injuries,” Colorado Parks and Wildlife said…
