Roanoke’s Excel Center, the first adult high school in Virginia, is heading into its second year with plans to grow its student body and a teaching staff preparing for the distinctive demands of educating adults who have been away from school for years or even decades.
Classes begin August 24, according to WFXR. The school is targeting enrollment growth from 50 to 75 students.
Operated by Goodwill Industries of the Valleys, the Excel Center is part of a broader model dating back to 2010, focused on building relationships with adult learners who are often managing jobs, child-rearing, housing difficulties, and other responsibilities alongside their studies.
