EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Sixty incoming dental students went through a rite of passage on Saturday, Aug. 22 when the Hunt School of Dental Medicine at Texas Tech Health El Paso held its sixth annual White Coat Ceremony.
The White Coat Ceremony marks the start of the students’ training and includes a pledge to care for patients across the Borderland region as students work to expand access to oral healthcare, Texas Tech said.
Students will benefit from a hands-on education, with students beginning to treat patients in their first semester under the supervision of faculty dentists, Texas Tech said.
They will also learn about the healthcare needs of the Borderland through a “community immersion program” and will gain valuable communication skills through the Texas Tech Health El Paso’s medical Spanish classes, the university added…
