For more than two decades, Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors Inc has helped veterans and their families navigate the challenges that can come after military service. The organization grew from a much smaller effort started by Helen Sajer and her husband after they began visiting wounded soldiers at Walter Reed.
Sajer, now 92, said the couple eventually began bringing wounded veterans to their Pennsylvania farm, giving them an opportunity to step away from the hospital and spend time with their families. “It was a wonderful opportunity. We had a building called the Kinderhaus, which was a wonderful building. And so it was such an awakening for many of them who said, could we come back again next year? Because this is the first time they felt so relaxed.”
Sajer said the organization has continued to grow from those early efforts and has now helped more than 21,000 people…
