SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. – If your home sustained damage to electrical equipment during Saturday’s bow echo thunderstorm, MLGW says you may have to take some extra steps before you can get your power back on.
According to MLGW, at the height of the outages, 140,000 customers were without power. As of 10 p.m on Sunday roughly 58,000 customers are still without power.
For those homes with damage to meters, lines or other electrical equipment, there is a three-step process.
- Call a licensed electrician to make repairs: MLGW cannot turn the power back on unless equipment is in working condition.
- Contact Shelby County Code Enforcement: Code enforcement will check to make sure the repairs are sound and ready for use.
- Call MLGW to reconnect power: In order to reconnect, MLGW says to call (901) 544-6500.
