Proposed Springfield zoning ban could block self-storage expansion, cut business value

SPRINGFIELD, Mich. — A proposed zoning ordinance in Springfield would prohibit new mini-warehouse and self-storage facilities in the city, while making existing facilities nonconforming uses.

The proposal is drawing concern from Chip Spranger and Brett Long, co-owners of West Dickman Road Self Storage, who say the change could prevent them from expanding and affect the future value of their business.

The two have operated the facility in Springfield for more than 25 years…
