After 50 years of serving neighbors in need, the Washington Heights Ecumenical Food Bank has celebrated the grand opening of its new location on Mount Washington.
On Thursday, officials held a ribbon cutting for the food bank’s new space at 6 Boggs Ave. The spot gives the volunteer-run food bank a permanent location after years of moving between sites. The original food bank was located a half-mile down Boggs Avenue at St. Justin Church, which has since closed.
“Thanks to everyone who attended the ribbon cutting today. Was a very nice event. Minus the rain. But if you ask any food bank volunteer they will say we’re used to it,” said Linda Reber, volunteer for the food bank. “Over our 50 years of existence the food bank has dealt with all kinds of situations. Through it all we are very proud to have never missed a distribution.”…
