Super El Niño raises concerns of mudslides in San Diego burn zones

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Anytime a wildfire breaks out in San Diego County, it not only threatens lives and homes, but it also leaves behind an open scar on the earth.

With the Super El Niño on the way, those scars instantly become prime targets for mudslides.

“After a wildfire, that land no longer has protection, no vegetation. So it not only burns the land, but creates a zone for mudslides, especially now that the El Niño is coming,” said Oscar Sotelo of Cal Fire…
