MILWAUKEE The family of 39-year-old Shamarla Hare held a vigil outside her home on 39th and Townsend Monday. It’s where prosecutors say Thomas Zollicoffer shot and killed her earlier this month.

“She was a beautiful person. Loves family, loves her siblings, she loved everybody. She would help anyone. She served our country, and she stood up for herself before her life was taken,” Hare’s mom, Tarisha Hare, said.

The family says Shamarla served in the Navy and was honorably discharged, but an inactive veteran’s funeral isn’t fully covered.
