Joliet Man Accused of Fleeing From Grundy Co. Sheriff’s Office

A Will County man is accused of fleeing from the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office on Interstate 55 around 10:15 p.m. on Friday, August 21st. A vehicle driven by Luis Cuevas, 22, of Joliet was observed by the Sheriff’s Office speeding at a high rate of speed on Interstate 55. As the deputy approached, Cuevas made several abrupt lane changes and continued accelerating after an officer activated his emergency lights and siren.

The vehicle continued southbound at speeds exceeding 115 mph before exiting I-55 at the Route 47 interchange near Dwight. The vehicle continued southbound on Route 47 before eventually coming to a stop on top of the overpass. During the investigation, police officials say Cuevas acknowledged that he had been traveling at a high rate of speed and told deputies he was attempting to get home.

Cuevas stated he did not realize how fast he had been traveling and acknowledged that speeding at that rate was a poor decision. Cuevas was arrested for Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Speeding 115 MPH in a 70 MPH Zone. He was transported to the Grundy County Jail and released on pretrial release…
