Love Chinese dim sum? New Orleans is getting more on both Magazine St. and St. Charles Ave.

Dim sum arrive at the table like little gifts, with dumplings snug in their bamboo steam trays and small bites on tea plates.

Soon New Orleans will be unwrapping more of it, with a new Magazine Street restaurant in the works from a family that has long been part of the local Chinese food scene and with a different restaurant known for sushi expanding with dim sum as well.

Tsang’s Dim Sum & Bar is a new restaurant under development at 5538 Magazine St., in the address that was previously the steakhouse Medium Rare (and a long time location of Juan’s Flying Burrito before that).

It is the latest from mother-and-daughter team Judy Ceng and Bonnie Ceng. The family once ran Little Chinatown Restaurant (3800 Williams Blvd.) in Kenner and later started Dian Xin (1218 Decatur St.), a dim sum restaurant in the French Quarter, and Dian Xin 2 (620 Conti St.), a hotpot specialist also in the Quarter…
