AKRON, Ohio – When school begins at Akron Public School’s K-5 Schumacher Community Learning Center on Aug. 31, Shelby Morgan will officially begin in her new role as principal.
But unlike many school principals, Morgan’s path to becoming an administrator didn’t start as a teacher. Instead, she got her start in education in the cafeteria as a nutrition worker in the district’s Leggett Community Learning Center. The experience helped Morgan, 32, solidify her career path in education.
“With wanting to go into education, I actually wanted to start in a high school. But once they put me into the elementary school, that really kind of sealed the deal, like this is my calling, I’m supposed to be with this age group of children,” Morgan told cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer…
