Construction of Northeastern’s new Multipurpose Athletics and Recreation Facility has been delayed about nine months, now set to be completed in spring or summer of 2029 rather than the fall of 2028, according to an Aug. 25 email shared with The Huntington News.
Asbestos-containing material likely left from the original construction of the arena, which was constructed in 1910, was discovered upon excavation, prompting a suspension of work and consultation with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration Brett Sweet wrote in the email.
