A woman struck by a vehicle while crossing 10th Street at Alamitos Avenue in Long Beach last Friday night has died at the hospital, according to police. The Long Beach Police Department said it was notified of her death on Sunday, and detectives were still investigating the case as of Monday.
The woman was walking west in the north crosswalk of 10th Street at about 8:20 p.m. Friday when a driver making a left turn from 10th Street onto northbound Alamitos Avenue struck her, according to MyNewsLA.com. She was treated at the scene before being taken to a hospital, where she later died. Her name, age, and place of residence have not been released. Police said neither speed nor impaired driving appeared to be factors in the collision, and the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, per the outlet’s report.
The intersection sits along a stretch of Alamitos Avenue that has already seen deadly crashes. A fatal pedestrian collision struck at East Anaheim Street and Alamitos Avenue in November 2025, and another fatal crash occurred nearby at 10th Street and Orange Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department. The corridor runs through the border of Downtown Long Beach’s North East Village neighborhood, a dense residential and commercial district with heavy foot traffic near landmarks like Saint Anthony Parish, according to the Downtown Long Beach Alliance.
A Familiar Pattern of Left-Turn Crashes
This is not the first time this year a left-turning driver in Long Beach has struck and killed a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk under similar circumstances.
