Oregon town closes parks, museum and library amid funding shortfall

INDEPENDENCE, Ore. (KATU) — The city of Independence in Oregon, just southwest of the capital Salem, has closed its parks, a museum, and is working to close the Independence Public Library for the foreseeable future.

According to a city spokesperson, the city is in the process of closing eight parks within Independence, and gave the Heritage Museum a same-day notice, saying that its last day of operation will be Aug 25, today.

A referendum is set to be on the November ballot to fund these city efforts. But while it’s in progress, they can’t collect the money for funding…
