Brisket cooks will put their barbecue skills—and their reputations—to the test when Rio Linda holds its first annual Battle of the Brisket on Saturday, Sept. 26.
The community barbecue competition will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at Heavenly Haven, located at 966 Oak Lane in Rio Linda.
Competitors can enter a brisket for $50 or submit a side dish for $20. For those who would rather eat than compete, brisket meal tickets are available for $40.
The People’s Choice brisket winner will receive a cash prize of at least $500. A separate judges’ panel will select the recipient of the Brisket King trophy, while cash prizes will also be awarded for the best side dish.
Longtime Rio Linda community member Tommy Hall has been announced as the competition’s first judge. Organizers said Hall will bring both his local experience and his appetite to the judges’ table…
