As parents across Ireland continue to search for the perfect baby names, recent data highlights the growing popularity of traditional Irish choices alongside contemporary favorites. This resurgence reflects a broader appreciation for Irish culture and heritage in naming trends today.
According to the latest rankings from Baby Name Together, Ben tops the list for boys, while Ellie leads for girls. Close behind are Cillian and Ella in second place, with Oisín and Ella sharing third.
Beyond the top three, popular boys’ names include Rory, Hunter, Daniel, Aleksander, and Ruadhán, with Lorcan holding the 20th spot. For girls, names such as Ava, Amelia, Erin, Lily, and Saoirse follow Ellie, with Chloe ranking twentieth.
Earlier this year, the Central Statistics Office (CSO) released its Irish Babies’ Names 2025 report, reinforcing the ongoing appeal of Irish names. In that report, Rián was the most popular boys’ name, followed by Jack, Noah, James, and Oisín. For girls, Lily topped the list, with Éabha, Fiadh, and Grace also ranking highly.
The CSO report also noted significant climbs in popularity for certain names. Boys’ name Naoise surged 74 places to 88th, while the girls’ name Raya jumped 114 spots to 99th. Newcomers entering the top 100 included Levi, Dáire, Naoise, Conall, Elijah, and Teidí for boys, and Ríadh, Gracie, Mabel, Arabella, Nancy, and Raya for girls.
