BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – More people are living in downtown Birmingham, according to a new report from REV Birmingham showing the apartment occupancy rate reaching 84%.
Occupancy rate increase
Two major apartment buildings opened at the end of 2025, adding more than 500 new units in downtown Birmingham.
Jackson Dean, research and data manager for REV Birmingham, said the occupancy rate for downtown living jumped from 79% to 84% from the end of 2025 to now.
“The feeling of having people there all the time, and it’s a place people care about, it has an economic impact absolutely, but it also creates a neighborhood where people live and that’s really what we want for downtown,” Dean said.
