Police Chief Dennis King plans to retire when his contract expires June 30, 2027, adding another major position Marblehead will need to fill during a period of turnover in town leadership.
King has led the Marblehead Police Department since 2021, when he succeeded longtime Chief Robert Picariello. He came to Marblehead after 25 years with the Salem Police Department, where he served as a captain and interim chief.
His announcement follows several other departures from prominent town and school positions.
