Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard joined Tedeschi Trucks Band onstage Tuesday night at Acrisure Amphitheater in Grand Rapids for a soulful rendition of Sly & The Family Stone’s “Everyday People.” The appearance marked the first collaboration between the two bands during Alabama Shakes’ four-show run opening for TTB on the Future Soul Tour.
Tuesday’s concert at Acrisure Amphitheater was the third of the four dates on which Alabama Shakes are serving as the opening act for Tedeschi Trucks Band. Howard came out during the 12-piece ensemble’s medley of “You Can Make It If You Try”/“Everyday People.” Alabama Shakes touring members Shanay Johnson and Karita Law provided backing vocals throughout the Sly & The Family Stone sequence, while Howard teamed with Susan Tedeschi to sing “Everyday People.”
Tedeschi Trucks Band first debuted the pairing of “You Can Make It If You Try” and “Everyday People” during their 2026 residency at New York City’s Beacon Theatre. The band premiered the medley on March 11, with both songs making their TTB debuts that night…
