MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities say a driver slammed his Cadillac into a home just outside of Coral Gables in June, killing an 82-year-old man sleeping inside. They now say the driver was drunk at more than thrice the legal limit ― and took him into custody early Wednesday morning.
According to an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened at around 7:30 p.m. on June 24 at a home in the 2900 block of Southwest 57th Avenue, in the unincorporated Coral Terrace area.
The MDSO report states that Allen Matis, 67, of Coral Gables, was driving a Cadillac Lyriq on Palermo Avenue when he ran a stop sign and slammed the SUV into the home, crashing through the wall and hitting Henri Bezy as he slept inside…
