Man arrested after trying to enter Walton County school

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – A Jacksonville man was arrested Wednesday morning after attempting to gain access to a Walton County school, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said 51-year-old Matthew Ross Patania was spotted just before 7:30 a.m. at Dune Lakes Elementary wearing a black backpack and riding a scooter in the car line.

Deputies said Patania was stopped by employees and told them he was dropping off lunch money to his son. He was directed to the main office before being stopped again, telling a different employee his wife had helped, then asking another employee where the office was located.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office found Patania by the pickleball courts behind the school. Law enforcement officials said Patania does not have a son at the school and is not married…
