A 32-year-old California man has been convicted of ambushing and fatally shooting a newly engaged sheriff’s deputy who was sitting at a red light in his marked patrol vehicle less than a block from the station.
A jury in Los Angeles County found Kevin Eduardo Cataneo Salazar guilty on one count of first-degree murder in the September 2023 slaying of 30-year-old Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer, prosecutors announced Tuesday.
According to a press release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, jurors needed only about 2 1/2 hours to convict Salazar of the murder. The panel also upheld special allegations in the case, finding that Salazar lied in wait, fired from a car, and targeted a law enforcement officer.
