Members of the Amarillo City Council appeared to be caught off guard by data presented by Deputy City Manager/COO Andrew Freeman during the Proposed Budget, Proposed Tax Rate discussion Tuesday. This was one of the discussion items on the agenda for the meeting.
Mayor Cole Stanley appeared to have an issue with how City Staff interpreted State form 50-856, a tax rate calculation worksheet that became the rule at the start of the year. Mayor Stanley said it not a math problem for him, but an interpretation of the form, suggesting a call to the capital for clarification, suggesting Governor Greg Abbott’s aides would be experts. Amarillo City Manager didn’t share the ‘expert’ opinion.
“I don’t think they’re experts in this honestly,” Path said. When Mayor Stanley asked if the City Manager didn’t think the Governor might have people on staff that “specialize” in the form, Path replied, “I do not.” Path says the Comptroller’s office is where the expertise with this form might be found…
