Houston-area mother says her SNAP benefits were stolen, leaving her family with $14 for food

HOUSTON — A Houston-area mother of five said a month’s worth of SNAP benefits disappeared from her Lone Star Card, leaving her family with just $14 to buy food.

Stefanie Smith said she works hard to stretch her grocery budget, using coupons and shopping sales to make her benefits last.

“I coupon like crazy. I try to save as much as I possibly can to stretch every dime,” Smith said…
