Former Missouri River Energy exec to be honored at SDSU

BROOKINGS, S.D. — Aug. 25, 2026 — From solar to wind and from nuclear to hydro, gas and coal-fired, Missouri River Energy Services provides power to 333,000 people in 61 communities in Iowa, Minnesota, North and South Dakota.

The man who directed Missouri River Energy Services for just over three decades — Tom Heller — will be honored as the 2026 recipient of the Wayne E. Knabach Excellence in Power Award from the Center for Power Systems Studies, which is housed in the McComish Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at South Dakota State University.

Heller, of Sioux Falls, will receive the award at the center’s annual fall meeting Sept. 16 at McCrory Gardens Great Hall on campus.
