O’Malley, Ronayne strike deal to end Cuyahoga County legal turf battle

A deal has been reached that clarifies what both Cuyahoga County’s prosecutor and law director are responsible for when it comes to legal matters.

Prosecutor Mike O’Malley and Executive Chris Ronayne agreed to a charter amendment to clarify the separation of authority between the law department and the county prosecutor. If passed by voters, it replaces informal agreements that have governed who handled what since county government was reformed in 2010.

Voters are likely to see the amendment on November’s ballot. County Council plans to meet next week so they can approve the deal and send it to voters ahead of a Sept. 4 deadline…
