GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Union High School junior Daisy Lopez-Salvatierra has packed her high school years with challenging classes, leadership opportunities and extracurricular activities. But it’s her resilience during a difficult chapter in her life that helped earn her recognition as one of this week’s Football Frenzy Tailgate Students of the Week.
Lopez-Salvatierra is a first-generation student and the youngest of six children. After transferring to Union during her freshman year, she quickly became immersed in school life.

She’s taken honors, Advanced Placement and dual enrollment courses, participates in advanced choir, student council and GVSU Upward Bound, and has played a role in organizing school events, including Union’s Cultural Celebration and talent shows.
“I just really like being involved in my school,” Lopez-Salvatierra said. “I think it gives me a great opportunity to grow and experience new things and meet people.”…
