A vacant elementary school on the northwest corner of Cozy Drive and Glider Drive in South San José could be demolished to make way for 80 new single-family homes—with 48 trees removed, Saturday construction noise, and a new public-access park all on the table.
The San José Planning Commission took up the proposal at its regular hearing, recommending that City Council approve demolishing the former Glider Elementary School at 511 Cozy Drive and subdividing the 9.51-acre site into 80 single-family homes—64 detached and 16 attached—along with an approximately 0.68-acre privately owned but publicly accessible park. The commission’s recommendation now heads to City Council, which makes the final call.
The Oak Grove School District owns the property, which sits in Council District 10. The six school buildings totaling roughly 56,644 square feet would be torn down to make way for the new homes.
