Firefighters from across Georgia face off during skills competition in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Energized by the sound of air packs snapping into place and ladders slamming into the pavement, firefighters from across Georgia competed in a fast‑paced skills showdown Thursday afternoon in downtown Augusta.

The annual Firefighters’ Competition is part of the 2026 Georgia Fire Service Conference, held this year in Augusta. Teams and individuals from legally organized fire departments around the state are testing themselves in a series of timed events designed to mirror the pressure and precision of real emergencies.

City leaders are making changes after an investigation found two apartment complexes with code violations that had been operating without business licenses while evicting tenants who complained.
