HONOLULU (Island News) — Honolulu police are warning the public about scammers posing as officers requesting payment for an ankle monitoring program that doesn’t exist.
The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) said individuals impersonate law enforcement officers in the scam and request payments, often through third-party apps such as Venmo and Zelle. HPD received reports about scammers demanding people to make payments for an “ankle monitoring program” in order for a family member who has been arrested or is incarcerated to be released.
