SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Attention is once again turning to the number of inmate deaths within South Dakota’s state prison system following a recent fatality and a historically high spike in deaths last year.
The state’s most recent prison death occurred on Aug. 25 at the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls, where 25-year-old Chico Baker died. Other inmates reported witnessing attempts by staff and emergency responders to resuscitate Baker.
“They worked on it right there,” one inmate said. “When the ambulance got here, they tried shocking him again, took him out, and then that was the last we heard anything.”…
