Police: Alleged DUI driver steals ambulance, crashes in west Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A suspected impaired driver is accused of stealing an ambulance before she crashed into a pickup truck in west Phoenix late Thursday night.

Phoenix police say around 11 p.m., a woman got into the driver’s seat of a Phoenix Fire ambulance that was parked near 83rd Avenue and Encanto Boulevard. Firefighters left the keys inside while responding to a call, and the woman drove off in the ambulance.

The woman reportedly fled the scene before she crashed into a pickup truck near 75th Avenue and Osborn Road, less than two miles away.
